Welcome to Range climbers- Bali Pass Trek in Uttarakhand  (India) – The best Summer  trek in the Himalayas Uttarkashi  District (Uttarakhand)

Bali Pass Trek, the road head to access this region is at Sankri village – Jankichatti , Yamunotri temple  & the nearest railways & airport is about 210 km away at Dehradun.

The trail begins at Taluka village & concludes across the Bali pass at Jaanki Chatti village below the Yumnotri temple. The linear distance of the trek is about 65 km – a measure that is meaningless on the mountains. What matters on the mountain is the work you do against or along gravity i.e., the altitude gained or lost & the time spent. The trail starts at about 2000mt, climbs up to about 5000mt & then descends to about 2000mt. This vertical traverse of 6000mt over 6 days defines the difficulty level of this trek.

Trek is a classic Summer trek. The trek provides a great opportunity for trekkers to see the scenic beauty and experience the life of remote villages of Garhwal Himalayas.

Bali Pass Trek lies in the Govind Wild life Sanctuary and National Park in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

The drive to Sankri (From where the Bali Pass trek starts) is one of the most picturesque drives in the Himalayas through Dehradun , Mussoorie, Nainbag , Damta , Nawgano , Purola, Mori, Netwar, Sankri , Taluka,Cheludgad , Devsu Bugyal, Ruinsara lake, Odari, Bali Pass, Damni , Yamunotri temple , Jankichatti , along the Tons River Bali Pass  trek is one the easiest treks in the Himalayas to enjoy thick snow cover Mountain

Sun setting on the greater beautiful Mountain range.

Bali Pass Trek , Har ki dun Road at Sankri which is located on the confluence of the Supin River at Sankari Left side a small village saur so looking four nice view for har ki dun and swargarohani pic Saur village Lord of Someswar Temple and Right side Supin River The best Know valley in the region is the pretty Har ki Dun loved for its wids expanse flowers and Mountain views. The valley east of Har ki Dun.!! Sankri is a small market and near village saur – a few beautiful Hotel and some shop make sankri stay at the our Hotel all trekkers get to sankri market evening time which is a good time after sneaks lookout sun setting on the greater beautiful Mountain range.

Beautiful Camp site

The Bali Pass  trek campsite is great for birding and surrounded by beautiful snow peaks. Bali Pass Trek  makes for a terrific trek in virgin snow, with pretty campsites and astonishingly wide clearings in the forests.

The excitement of the previous day hadn’t worn off, neither had the fatigue. Reluctantly we all arose & got dressed for further descent leaving the Bali Pass behind & in the past. Only the memories of the wonderful day would be our friends forever. A gradual walk down the mountains brought us to a wonderful locals for a group photograph & everyone posed with all the enthusiasm & noise. But soon excitement would give way to scare. We were at the verge of a very steep descent – almost 80-85 % gradient. Once again the porters were ready to porter us down. Each porter held one porterage by the hand & securely guided their steps down with some additonal reinforcements at critical points. This was a pitch of about 70-80 mt that seemed to have no bottom & no end. Once we reached the bottom of the ordeal we felt happy to be alive & our porters relieved to have the load off their heads.

Steep descent continued but nothing as bad as the ones that we experienced yesterday & today. But what it lacked in its lethality it more than made up in its gruesome length. The rocks gave way to the shades of the forest but the downhill descent did not give any sign of mercy. We paused for lunch break – shifting a small load of paranthas from our back pack to our tummies, & we continued our downward course. Suddenly the trail took a sharp turn to left, changed into hard concrete surface & the gradient became positive again. Yes, once again we were climbing. This climb was to take us to the Yumnotri Temple – & it seemed that the emphasis was on “Yum” with the “notri” being almost silent. Gods were mocking us & had to prove it to us that its not easy to reach them. Close to & at the temple I met my usual frustration by the way religion has degenerated into business – sell God to the ingorant & make some money in the bargain. I could hear the temple’s PA system (well God’s are hearing impaired) play -“maili chaadar od ke kaise dwaar tumhare aaoon

man maila aur tan ko dhoye, phool ko chaahe kaante boe”

Often considered a “virgin trek” in the Indian Himalayas. Bali Pass is one of the least explored treks that links Har Ki Dun valley to Yamunotri valley. The trek offers amphitheater views of Swargarohini peaks 1 & 2, Banderpooch and Kala Nag or Black Peak. The pass is situated at an altitude of 4950 m. Due to its high altitude the post monsoon period is considered best to trek. In pre monsoon season there is a plenty of snow that makes climbing to the pass more challenging and technical. The trekking route is challenging & is not recommended for beginners. The main attractions of this trek includes pine forests of Govind Pashu National Park, meadows of Debshu Bugyal, beautiful camp site of Rainbasera, alpine lake of Ruinsara, Yamnotri temple and much more

The Best drive with Team  Range climbers

Pick up from Dehradun Railway Station,  Drive to Hotel in  Main market Sankri. Trek lies in the Govind Wild life Sanctuary and National Park in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The drive to Sankri (From where the Bali Pass trek starts) is one of the most picturesque drives in the Himalayas through Mussoorie, Barkot, Purola, Mori, Netwar, Motwat, Sankri  along the Tons River .

High Altitude Snow Peak In Bali Pass  Around

It is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Western Himalayas. A delight for trekkers, both in summer and winter, this valley is accessible through Govind National Park – Govind Pashu vihar -known for its rich variety of flora and fauna. The trail through alpine meadows, moraine ridges, glacier basins, pine forests and ancient villages, gives you spectacular valley views and a chance to experience the wonderful slow-paced local lifestyle.

This is the only valley from where one can see Swargarohini – I, II, III, (6300mt) Bandarpoonch and Blackpeak (6387mt) , all together. One can also see the Ruinsara Lake (3400 mt) peaks from here

Bali Pass is a high altitude pass at 4953 m that connects the Har ki dun & Ruinsara valleys with the Yumnotri valley in the Uttarakhand region of Indian Himalayas. Rauinsara taal is a natural fresh water lake near the base of Ruinsara peak. The region is picturesque & lush green after the monsoon rains in June-August. So September-October is a good weather window to trek in this region. Other attractions of the region are the pristine Swargarohini peak (6252m), Bandar Poonch & Kala Nag mountains. And for the pious souls, there is the Yumnotri temple (one of the four important Hindu places of pilgrimage) & the river. For the atheists like me, who are in love with the beauty of the mountains, God is everywhere except the temples.
